March 3, 2017

We filled a room with bold, ambitious like-minded individuals looking to collaborate, share ideas, ask for feedback and create visions for the year to attain the highest levels of success in each of our roles as dietitians. I called it “Dream Hour” and it took place on Frida, March 3rd.

We had a beautiful, modern & tech-savvy venue in Naples at the brand new ZuMedic offices.

San Diego welcomed its first mini meeting of the year July 26th at the Shaw's Simple Swaps office! The 1.5 CEU event was a huge hit! The presentation featured a in-depth look at the FODMAP diet from specialist EA Stewart, MBA, RDN, of The Spicy RD, followed by a hands-on food photography lesson. Everyone had a great time networking and learning about the new changes in dietary health as well as how to boost their food photos! To check out some highlights from the event, search #FodMapStyle on social media.

St. Louis, MO

St. Louis NE members had a mini-meeting on 6/20, hosted by Jennifer McDaniel and Alexandra Caspero. After a lesson by Alex on food photography tips and tricks, we enjoyed a potluck-style dinner outside. It was a fun, informal gathering with NE colleagues and we plan on hosting another event later this Fall.

Arlington, Texas

NEDPG and BHNDPG had a fun and powerful mini meeting at the Texas Academy's Annual Conference and Expo on April 28th in Arlington, Texas. We enjoyed networking with entrepreneurs across the state to build up dietitians and support each others business.

New York City

On Thursday, March 31, 2016, 25 RDs and RDs-to-be joined together for a NE mini-meeting in New York City. Nutrigenomix was generous enough to sponsor the meeting, and we met at a local pub for some relaxed conversation and networking.  There were RDs in attendance from many varying professions, such as PR, media and communications, clinical, private practice and public health.  It was a great way to meet other like-minded RDs in the area and a wonderful way to close out National Nutrition Month. We hope to get a group together again this summer!

Philadelphia, PA area

On Wednesday, March 9, a total of 27 local RDNs celebrated “Savor YOUR Flavor of Eating Right and Brand You!” in Bryn Mawr, PA. Organized by Emma Fogt MBA, MS, RDN, LDN, FAND, the evening began with networking while dining on savory XOLO Tacos, fresh ceviche and yummy guacamole, followed by an informative presentation on “Branding You Using Social Media” by Kendra Lee Thatcher, BA, DTR and Kelly Jones MS, RD, CSSD, LDN. Lastly there was a presentation on “35 Marketing Tools to Brand You” and a fun interactive marketing exercise with goal sheet presented by Lisa Ann Jones, MA, RDN, LDN, FAND and Kathleen Mathis MS, RDN, LDN.

Mark your calendars for the three Philly area NE Mini Meetings we have scheduled for 2016-2017 in King of Prussia, Philadelphia and for RDN Day!

Washington, DC area

In the busy month of December the dietitians at Rebecca Bitzer, MS, RD & Associates hosted a NE mini-meeting at its office in Greenbelt, MD.  There was a great turnout of 15 RDs and 3 nutrition students.  As ice-breakers, Dana Magee led the name game and Rebecca Bitzer led the 60 second huddle. Both seemed to work very well.  We asked Jan Patenaude to skype in from Hawaii to give some entrepreneurial inspiration that was well received.  Her main message was to always remember “what problem are you helping your clients solve?” We also provided information about a sports nutrition workshop that Nancy Clark will be leading in our geographical area. The resulting discussion seemed to inspire all who attended.  We already have several people volunteering to organize our next meeting.

San Francisco, CA

Twenty-five people attended NE’s mini-meeting in San Francisco, CA, on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, hosted by NE Chair-Elect, Sarah Koszyk. The meeting was held at the Sports Basement where well-renowned speaker and MI trainer, Steven Malcolm Berg-Smith, MS, MINT, presented “The Art of Motivational Interviewing (MI).” The talk was full of extremely useful and applicable information where everyone received 1 CPEU. In addition, Kuli Kuli shared their delicious Moringa Superfood Bars, Powder, and Energy Shots. Networking is always so much fun with good food, hot topics, and great people.

Philadelphia, PA

Twenty NE members met at the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in the heart of Philadelphia for the 2nd NE-PA Mini Meeting this year. We were honored to have an interactive and hands-on presentation delivered by Chris Cline, President of Cline Marketing & Communications, on the “Key Ingredients to Spice up Your Presentation.” Emma Fogt presented some points from Building a Career through Public Speaking, an article by Lori Zanteson in Today’s Dietitian (2014).  Overall, NE members had a very delicious event!

San Francisco Bay Area

A small group met on a sunny day in San Francisco on October 18, 2015 for brunch and networking. We had an engaging discussion about RD jobs in tech and start-ups, how some of us got into our current roles in local start-ups, and the challenges and discoveries we learned about working in small teams, marketing, and social media. All of us are RD bloggers so we also had a lively discussion about blogging, maintaining our creativity, finding our voice and target audience, and building brand awareness. We all had a great time and enjoyed some good food. We're hoping this is the start of a regular get-together!
